Stanley Leary: Crafting Stories that Change Lives

Stanley Leary is a seasoned visual storyteller, brand builder, and communications consultant with over 40 years of experience. He served as a corporate communications consultant for Chick-fil-A for over twelve years and continues to do contract work with them. His client list also includes Kimberly-Clark, Newell-Rubbermaid, Coca-Cola, Georgia Tech, The Carter Center, and many nonprofit organizations worldwide.

Stanley’s work has taken him across the United States to Burkina Faso, Canada, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, and Tanzania. His photography and video storytelling have appeared in global publications such as TIME, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Paris Match, and Stern.

In addition to serving clients, Stanley is a teacher and mentor. He is a guest lecturer at Youth With A Mission’s School of Photography in Kona, Hawaii, where he teaches lighting and business practices. For over a decade, he has led Storytellers Abroad Workshops, training professionals in storytelling while producing films for missionaries and nonprofits. His teaching emphasizes technical excellence and the art of uncovering purpose-driven stories that connect with audiences.

Stanley holds a B.S. in Social Work and an M.A. in Communications. He is also an FAA Part 107-certified drone pilot. In addition to his professional life, he enjoys playing trumpet and flugelhorn, sharing adventures with his wife, Dorie Griggs. He is based in Roswell, Georgia.

With more than 35 years of experience in photo and video storytelling, James has combined his technical mastery with a passion for teaching, mentoring, and inspiring others.

At ESPN, James plays a vital role in shaping the look and feel of one of the network’s most high-profile sports, while also equipping editors across the organization through his training in Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects. His influence reaches beyond corporate broadcasting, as he also dedicates his time to telling stories in missions work around the globe—bringing the same level of excellence and innovation to nonprofit storytelling as he does to elite sports coverage.

A gifted communicator and teacher, James thrives on engaging others, helping them grow their skills, and finding joy in the creative process. Whether in the edit bay at ESPN or on the mission field, James continues to set the standard for impactful, innovative storytelling.
